A Cause Close to Our Hearts
People always ask me why we as a family support Special Olympics. While my Father George Lyall (www.operationfootsteps.com) supported over 100 charities in his lifetime, I asked him on one of his rare good days while fighting Alzheimer's Disease, "Out of all the charities and organizations you have supported in your lifetime, if you had to choose only one to support, which one would it be?"
"Oh," he said without hesitation, "Special Olympics. Those kids work so hard while cheering for each other to win. If they don't win, they cheer for each other anyway, never caring who won or lost. Everyone is equal in their eyes. They all feel like winners simply by competing. If all the world acted like these athletes, the world would be a much better place." He was so right!
